Some senators have begun moves to get the federal government to release from detention leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu and former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki.

The reports noted that senators may have concluded arrangements to invoke relevant Senate rules to compel the Attorney General of the Federation Mallam Abubakar Malami to see to immediate release of the two men. The concerned senators, the report said, is led by Chief Mao Ohuabunwa who drew the attention of the Senate to the continued detention Kanu and Dasuki despite court orders directing the Federal Government to release them.

The Abia North senator told journalists in Abuja that the continued detention of Kanu and Dasuki despite court orders was a gross violation of the fundamental human rights of the two men.  He said: ”I still stand by my prayers last week on the floor of the Senate that the Attorney General of the Federation should advice the president to release Kanu and Dasuki the same way he advised the Customs boss to ignore Senate invitation on the ground that the matter was in court. “We should have respect for rule of law and I support the call for the immediate release of Kanu and Dasuki.”

It was also gathered that IPOB has called on Justice Binta Nyako to guard her utterances in the ongoing trial of its leader Nnamdi Kanu. The group in a statement signed by its new spokespersons Ikenna Chinaka and Grace Ukpai said Nyako has aligned herself with the dictates of President Muhammadu Buhari.
